Created by WayUp in 2017 and continued after WayUp was acquired by Yello in 2021, National Intern Day is a holiday dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the future leaders of the world: interns!

National Intern Day is always the last Thursday in July. This year, it falls on July 31, 2025.

Celebrate your interns

• Schedule activities virtually or in-person for your interns—ranging from group lunches to team-building events.

• Collaborate with intern managers to develop intern appreciation programs. This could include writing personal thank-you emails, sending digital gift cards, distributing internal awards for top interns, highlighting interns on your social media channels, and so much more!

Nominate your program for the annual Top 100 Internship Programs List

• Fill out the nomination form to be considered for Yello’s Top 100 Internship Programs List. Each program will be evaluated using only the information you provide — the more details, the better. (Only one nomination per company will be accepted.)

• Winners from last year can be found here!

• Your company must hire at least one intern or co-op in the U.S. in 2025

• A current employee must nominate your company

The prestigious list is Yello’s annual ranking of the top 100 internship programs in the U.S.

Nominations will open in mid-April 2025 and close on July 10, 2025 at 12pm ET. The winners will be announced on National Intern Day (July 31).

Voting closes the week before National Intern Day on July 24th.

Selection of the Top 100 is based on a combination of Public votes & judging by a panel of industry experts. The judging criteria is as follows: All submissions are anonymized before the judges review them to avoid any bias. This means that all mentions of the company name are removed. The judges only review the information submitted in the nomination form by the employer, so all submissions must be completed with as much factual information as possible. Judges focus most on the following areas:

• Compensation & perks

• Program orientation & structure

• Career development for interns

• Full-time employment prospects

• Company culture & engagement

• Unique aspects of the program

Winners will be notified on National Intern Day (July 31)

Programs that included details about the following attributes stood out the most to judges:

• Examples of the meaningful work opportunities provided to interns

• Ways that the company is being intentional in keeping interns engaged

• Innovative aspects to the program

• And more!

Nominations that focus on the areas listed above and include what makes them unique really stand out to the judges every year. Here are a few areas to be mindful of for next year:

• Focusing on how much your company values your intern class by saying that they don’t just “fetch coffee” and get to work on strategic projects. This does not help the judges understand what makes your program stand out since all programs claim to have their interns work on impactful projects.

• Over 90% of the nominations described how their interns interact with their executive teams. While this is excellent, it didn’t stand out as a unique perk for interns this year, given how many companies incorporated this into their programs.

Yes! You can edit your nomination up until the nomination deadline (July 10th at 12pm EDT.)

To edit your nomination, visit the nomination page, login to the account you used to submit your nomination, and select your nomination under “My Entries”.

Account creation is required to submit or vote for the Top 100 Internship Programs List.

Accounts are necessary to allow you to edit your nomination after submitting and ensure each voter is limited to 1 vote per day.
